Fifteen years ago in 1990, the owners and management of Pittsburgh's Allegheny Center Plaza were concerned about the considerable expense exceeding $500,000 each year in maintaining a 110,000 square foot pedestrian traffic area, as well as the 3,000 car heated parking garage beneath the Plaza. They needed a new, innovative product which could withstand harsh freeze-thaws and heavy snowfalls inherent in Pittsburgh winters, as well as its scorching summer heat. Since then and continuing to today, PERMACRETE® has been the breakthrough solution to their problem.
The original contact for the project came to Quality Systems from a newly satisfied PermaCrete customer, who convinced the Center's president, David Knight, to visit Nashville and inspect PermaCrete for himself. Knight made the trip during the 1990 Nashville Home Show and was so impressed with PermaCrete's multiple surface applications that he decided to proceed further. A late fall test installation proceeded to determine if PermaCrete could meet the stringent traffic and weather demands of the Center's requirements. The results proved Knight's judgment was sound.
Today, after fifteen years and having withstood the critical test of time, the gleaming surface of PermaCrete still dramatically improves and enhances the entire Plaza area at Allegheny Center, a resounding testament to the durability and cost-saving benefit of a PermaCrete installation!
